Chevin Cycles proudly presents a Cyccling Legends Talk on Tom Simpson.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Cycling journalist and author of 21 books Chris Sidwells tells the story of his uncle, Tom Simpson one of Britain’s most successful cyclists.<\/p>\n Date: Wednesday 4th March 19:30 – 21:30<\/strong><\/p>\n Venue: Bloomfield Cafe Otley (LS21 1BR)<\/strong><\/p>\n Free Admission \/ Free Parking at Chevin Cycles<\/strong><\/p>\n Delivered by the journalist and writer, author of 21 books on cycling and 1000’s of articles over the last 15 years, Chris Sidwells, who is also Tom Simpson\u2019s nephew, this talk tells Simpson\u2019s story from his birth in the north-east of England, though an Olympic bronze at the age of 19, and his rapid rise through the ranks of European pro cycling to become one of the best in the world.<\/p>\n Sir Bradley Wiggins recently said of Simpson; \u201cThe odds against him winning the Tour of Flanders when he did, at the age of 23, were colossal. Add in Milan-San Remo, his masterpiece in Il Lombardia, his world road race title, Paris-Nice and the rest, and you have arguably the most complete British road racer of all time. Cavendish was (and still is) a better sprinter, I was a much better time triallist, and Tom couldn\u2019t climb like Robert Millar. However, none of us could have won so many big, important and widely diverse races as Tom did, and it\u2019s unlikely anybody else ever will.\u201d<\/p>\n Simpson\u2019s story is one of adventure, ambition, success and ultimate tragedy, but it\u2019s also a love story, the story of a charming man who won a place in people\u2019s hearts so big that he badly missed by those who knew him today.<\/p>\n The talk also introduces and presents Chris Sidwells\u2019 latest book, Cycling Legends 01 Tom Simpson, which will be available to all who attend at a discounted price.
